Ten veterinary pathologists at 1 veterinary institution independently assigned histologic grades to the same 60 canine cutaneous mast cell tumors (MCTs). There was significant variation among pathologists in grading the MCTs (P < 0.001). The probability of assigning a low grade was significantly higher for the pathologists in this study who use a published reference for histologic grading of canine cutaneous MCTs that allows subcutaneous MCTs or MCTs with mitotic figures to be included in the low-grade category (P < 0.0001 and P < 0.0001, respectively). 相似文献

Ten veterinary pathologists independently assigned histologic grades to the same 60 canine cutaneous mast cell tumors using the Patnaik classifications. The degree of agreement in grading among the pathologists was compared with the degree of agreement among the same pathologists in a previous study, in which each pathologist used the reference for grading that he/she uses routinely. Mean agreement improved significantly from 50.3% to 62.1% with uniform use of the Patnaik classifications (P = 0.00001), suggesting that there is value in uniform application of a single grading scheme for canine cutaneous mast cell tumors. Agreement among pathologists was still not 100%, suggesting that a more objective grading scheme should be developed and that other histologic indicators of prognosis should be investigated. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: The optimal treatment after inducing complete remission (CR) in dogs with lymphoma has not been established. HYPOTHESIS: After inducing CR with L-asparaginase, vincristine, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, prednisone (L-CHOP); consolidation with either half-body radiation therapy (HBRT); or lomustine (CCNU) and mechlorethamine, vincristine, procarbazine, prednisone (MOPP) would improve first remission duration compared with continuing a CHOP-based protocol for an additional 4 months. ANIMALS: Dogs with stage III-V lymphoma. METHODS: Prospective clinical trial in which dogs initially were treated with an 8-week induction protocol that consisted of L-CHOP. Dogs in CR after induction were then allocated to 1 of 2 consolidation arms. A chemotherapy consolidation arm consisted of 2 treatments with CCNU and 1 cycle of MOPP. A HBRT arm consisted of 2 sequential 8.0-Gy fractions to the cranial and caudal half-body separated by 30 days. Vincristine was given between fractions. Results of the consolidation arms also were compared with a historical group treated with the same 8-week induction protocol followed by CHOP therapy until week 24. RESULTS: Overall, 67% of the dogs were in CR after 8 weeks of induction chemotherapy and were compared. Fifty-two dogs were in the historical arm, 23 in the CCNU/MOPP arm, and 27 in the HBRT arm. No difference in first remission duration was found among groups. Median first remission duration for the historical, CCNU/MOPP, and HBRT arms were 307, 274, and 209 days, respectively (P = .28). Overall second CR rate was 82% and was not different among groups (all P > or = .58). Overall remission duration (P = .28) and survival time (P = .48) were not different among groups. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL IMPORTANCE: Consolidation with either CCNU/MOPP or HBRT showed no advantage over a standard CHOP-based protocol. 相似文献

Aeromonas hydrophila are known for being opportunistic pathogens, harboring various virulence factors and triggering lesions and death in fish. The disease caused by bacteria can make fish inappropriate for human consumption, besides representing a risk to public health. The pathogenesis can be influenced by environmental variables, affecting fish productivity and mortality. The present study aimed to determine whether A. hydrophila harbor the virulence genes aerolysin, hydrolipase, elastase, lipase, cytotonic enterotoxin (ast), lateral flagellum (laf), and polar flagellum (fla) and to evaluate the influence of environmental variables on in vitro growth, in vivo virulence and expression of some of these genes. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based screening for the presence of these virulence genes was performed on 35 isolates. Six isolates containing different profiles of virulence genes were tested for in vitro growth under different conditions of pH, temperature, and ammonia and for in vivo virulence under these same environmental conditions. RT-qPCR was used to quantify the expression of aerolysin, lipase, and fla genes. All the tested environmental factors influenced the growth of A. hydrophila, while pH and ammonia concentrations influenced the bacterial virulence. The expression of the fla gene increased when bacteria were grown in higher ammonia concentration. The mortality established by Aeromonas is influenced by several environmental factors pinpointing the importance of its control in fish farming to avoid higher economic loses associated to bacterial disease outbreaks. 相似文献

A 6-year-old, male neutered mixed breed dog was presented emergently with a three-week history of hyporexia, vomiting, diarrhoea and weight loss. Upon examination, the patient was dull, had generalised muscle atrophy, moderate abdominal pain and a mild amount of peritoneal effusion. A fluid-filled, distended, corrugated small bowel with marked gastroparesis and moderate peritoneal effusion was noted on abdominal ultrasonography. Endoscopy revealed hyperaemic and friable mucosa and a subjectively narrowed pylorus. Emergency exploratory celiotomy was performed due to worsening patient condition and revealed thick, diffuse, fibrous adhesions of the abdominal cavity. Based on these findings, sclerosing encapsulating peritonitis (SEP) was suspected. A large mass of omentum adjacent to the greater curvature of the stomach had caused a pyloric outflow obstruction. Adhesiolysis was attempted but was unsuccessful due to the friability of the small intestines. The dog was humanely euthanased under anaesthesia. A diagnosis of SEP was confirmed via necropsy. No underlying cause was identified. This is the first known case of a pyloric outflow obstruction secondary to SEP in a dog. Although rare, this condition should be considered as a differential for dogs with signs of a pyloric outflow obstruction with concurrent ascites and abdominal pain, hyporexia, vomiting and diarrhoea. 相似文献

A total body irradiation (TBI) protocol was developed to support a bone marrow transplant (BMT) program for the treatment of canine hematologic malignancies. The purpose of this prospective study is to describe implementation of the protocol and resultant dosimetry. Nongraphic manual treatment planning using 6 MV photons, isocentric delivery, 40 × 40 cm field size, wall‐mounted lasers to verify positioning, a lucite beam spoiler (without use of bolus material), a dose rate of 8.75 cGy/min at patient isocenter, and a source‐to‐axis distance of 338 cm were used for TBI. A monitor unit calculation formula was derived using ion chamber measurements and a solid water phantom. Five thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLDs) were used at various anatomic locations in each of four cadaver dogs, to verify fidelity of the monitor unit formula prior to clinical implementation. In vivo dosimetric data were then collected with five TLDs at various anatomic locations in six patients treated with TBI. A total dose of 10 Gy divided into two 5 Gy fractions was delivered approximately 16 h apart, immediately followed by autologous stem cell transplant. The mean difference between prescribed and delivered doses ranged from 99% to 109% for various sites in cadavers, and from 83% to 121% in clinical patients. The mean total body dose in cadavers and clinical patients when whole body dose was estimated by averaging doses measured by variably placed TLDs ranged from 98% to 108% and 93% to 102% of the prescribed dose, respectively, which was considered acceptable. This protocol could be used for institutional implementation of TBI. 相似文献

Linac‐based stereotactic radiation therapy for canine non‐lymphomatous nasal tumours: 29 cases (2013‐2016) 下载免费PDF全文
Twenty‐nine dogs were treated with linac‐based stereotactic radiation therapy (SRT) for non‐lymphomatous nasal tumours. Only dogs with a follow‐up time >365 days were included in this retrospective analysis. No dogs had evidence of distant metastasis at diagnosis. Treatment was planned and a total of 30 Gy in 3 daily 10 Gy fractions was delivered using intensity‐modulation, cone‐beam CT‐based image guidance and a robotic treatment couch. Clinical signs improved in all cases. Nineteen dogs had CT scans 3‐4 months post‐SRT and all had partial or complete tumour response. Minimal acute toxicities were detected. Clinically significant late toxicities included oronasal or nasocutaneous fistulas (N = 3) and biopsy‐confirmed fungal rhinitis with no evidence of tumour progression (N = 2). The median progression‐free survival (PFS) was 354 days, with 49% and 39% progression‐free at 1 and 2 years post‐SRT, respectively. The median survival time (ST) was 586 days, with 69% and 22% alive 1 and 2 years post‐SRT, respectively. Neither the clinical parameters evaluated (modified Adams’ stage, histopathology, presence of intracranial extension of the tumour) nor dosimetric data were predictive for PFS or ST. This SRT protocol appears to be well tolerated, and PFI and ST are comparable or superior to those reported in other definitive‐intent radiotherapy protocols. 相似文献

Introduction
Heart-base tumors are increasingly treated with radiotherapy, yet safety and efficacy are incompletely understood. This case series describes outcomes after stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) for presumed chemodectoma.Animals
Six pet dogs.Methods
A retrospective study was performed, including dogs with a clinical diagnosis of chemodectoma and treatment with three-fraction SBRT (30 Gy total). Results
Heart-base tumors, presumed or confirmed to be chemodectomas, were diagnosed via histopathology or imaging. Treatment was delivered with intensity modulation and cone-beam computed tomography–based image guidance, using a linear accelerator and robotic couchtop. Intrafraction respiratory motion was managed with either neuromuscular blockade and breath-holding (n = 3) or high-frequency jet ventilation (n = 3); mean total anesthesia times for each technique were 165 and 91 min per fraction, respectively. Four tumors were assessed after SBRT; tumor volume decreased by 30–76%. Possible treatment-related complications included cough, tachyarrhythmias, and congestive heart failure. Two dogs experienced sudden death 150 and 294 days after SBRT. Three dogs are alive 408–751 days after SBRT, and one dog died of unrelated disease 1,228 days after SBRT.Conclusions
This SBRT protocol resulted in rapid tumor volume reduction, and jet ventilation effectively reduced treatment delivery times. However, cardiac arrhythmias (presumably tumor or treatment associated) and sudden death were common after SBRT. Therefore, SBRT is a potentially useful treatment but may not be appropriate for dogs with incidentally diagnosed, slowly growing tumors, which are not causing cardiovascular disturbances. Longer follow-up and larger case numbers are needed to more completely define safety and impact of treatment on long-term survivability. 相似文献50.

The Global Oscillation Network Group (GONG) project estimates the frequencies, amplitudes, and linewidths of more than 250,000 acoustic resonances of the sun from data sets lasting 36 days. The frequency resolution of a single data set is 0.321 microhertz. For frequencies averaged over the azimuthal order m, the median formal error is 0.044 microhertz, and the associated median fractional error is 1.6 x 10(-5). For a 3-year data set, the fractional error is expected to be 3 x 10(-6). The GONG m-averaged frequency measurements differ from other helioseismic data sets by 0.03 to 0.08 microhertz. The differences arise from a combination of systematic errors, random errors, and possible changes in solar structure. 相似文献
